HUGE Hornet Bee's Nest and Hive

Seven years ago we purchased an older home and have been renovating it for the past 7 years. There was a small Florida sun room that hadn't been updated or modernized since the early 1970's. We decided to demolish that room and build a new one.

Hubby started off by knocking down some of the walls and then was working on tearing down the ceiling when low and behold he found this....YES....a huge hornet bee's nest and hive up in the rafters. Oh my gosh!!! We had never seen one this big before!

After getting the ceiling panels down he hit it with bee spray to make sure that he killed all of the bees. He then waited for 2 hours and finally knocked it down and removed it. I hope you can see by my photograph how BIG that nest was!!!

We had noticed the spring, summer and fall the year before a lot of bee activity around the back side of our home but had never expected to find that up in the ceiling. Thankfully the room has been completely demolished and our new room is almost complete. I'll update the blog with some before and after photo's in a few weeks.

I'm deathly allergic to bee stings, so I'm pretty happy that the nest and hive is GONE. Plus, I don't have to worry about those bees attacking myself or my grandchildren anymore. Bye-Bye Bees!
